Watch out for Tony’s new book on “Internal Dynamics” to be published shortly
Internal Arts for Sports Men & Women
INTERNAL DYNAMICS: This system is the result of over thirty eight years of study, practice, observation and research. Please take a little time to try and understand the information, as this is important for anyone professional, or amateur, who seriously wish to enhance their sporting abilities, in whatever chosen field. For over thirty eight years I have studied, practice and researched what, in the Orient, are usually called “INTERNAL” systems. Although these systems are highly regarded in the East, they do really not enter our Western consciousness, culture or language. The reason for this lack of understanding and knowledge about these systems, I believe, is purely a cultural one. Our Western base society has two major ideals regarding human development; the development of the mind (study, college, university etc.) and the development of the body (sports, martial arts, aerobics, swimming, jogging etc.) There is nothing inherently wrong with this approach. However, there is a third and more powerful (if little known) way, and that is the total integration of the mind, body and energetic system i.e. the acupuncture, meridian, or the energy body. Is it impossible to reach our fullest potential without an understanding of these “INTERNAL” principles? My answer to this question would be an emphatic no. Animals retain tremendous power because of natural and integrated way of movement. Human beings have lost touch with this inherent potential, mainly because of our life-style, culture and inability to retain whole body awareness and knowledge. Anthony Court-Wales August 2010
INTERNAL DYNAMICS: Just observer the number of injuries received by sports men and women, and note how often they loose months of training through illness. Please ask yourself is this just part of the risk, or is there some other factor here. I would suggest that the emphasis on training the physical body alone creates a weakness and imbalance, as most sports people have little or no “internal strength” The Chinese for example always combine “internal training methods” with “external training methods” this includes their Olympic Squad. Let’s use the old car analogy: If your physical body corresponds to the body of your car, and your cardiovascular fitness to the motor. What attention and training methods to you employ to your electrical/energy system? If the Body is good, and the Motor is good, but the eclectics are not working properly, then the car will never perform at its fullest potential.
ENERGY SHOULD BE YOUR UNDERLYING POWER BASE. NOT JUST THE PHYSICAL.
FIVE QUESTIONS
1. Where in your body is the power focused? If you cannot answer this correctly, it may result in a failed rugby try, or a missed golf putt.
2. Which of these is the most powerful movement linear, circular or spiral, and is there an energy more powerful than just physical strength?
3. When a sports person finds them selves in the “ZONE” is the just a chance happening, or can you train to access this higher state of performance?
4. Do you understand the different roles played by thought and consciousness, regarding reaching the highest level of your chosen sport?
5. Are there possibilities that are still untapped by traditional Western training methods?
THIS SYSTEM OF UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE GAINED AND DEVELOPED, AROSE VERY GRADUALLY. AS IT SLOWLY BEGAN TO DAWN ON ME THAT THE “INTERNAL TRAINING METHODS” THAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY ONLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE EASTERN HEALTH, HEALING AND MARTIAL ARTS PRACTICES, COULD ALSO BE APPLIED TO ENHANCE SPORTS TRAINING. MANY OF THESE METHODS ARE VERY POWERFUL AND CAN MOVE ABILITIES ONTO NEW LEVELS.
NOT TO REPLACE TRADITIONAL METHODS, BUT TO ENHANCE THEM
“Tony Court has been a personal student and registered WTBA instructor now for over 20 years. He has, over the years proven to be one of our best instructors in both the healing and martial side of our curriculum. His teaching abilities are of the highest standard and I can absolutely recommend him to anyone without hesitation.” Erle Montaigue (Master Degree China)
Tony Court is a remarkable teacher. In 20 minutes he had people who walked in from the street working with mind and energy in subtle and complex ways that martial arts practitioners of 20 years, (including myself) struggle with. He is a bringer of subtle, important and mind opening tools and techniques that are essential for anyone who wishes to begin exploring the higher forms of mind and body interaction in the martial and healing arts. John Kavanagh, (Chief Instructor Tai Chi Club) Institute of Science, and Technology-Sligo, Ireland
I have spent over 3 decades studying and training in a very physical martial arts style. I have improved my techniques and strength throughout this time. However, it was not a complete system and I began the search for something more. In this search I came across Master Anthony Court. A great find. Tony gave me the internal methods to enhance my technique to I point where I can deliver as much power as before but without the use of all that strength. An explosive power that envelopes external and internal methods to make a complete style. If you are looking to enhance your style or sport I wholeheartedly recommend Tony to you. He teaches with great passion and ease of communication that allows for immediate improvement. Master James Hulse 7th Dan University Ryu Karate and Kyusho Do (Based at Keele University)
After being under Tony’s tuition and guidance for the last 16 months, I am convinced that had I known about the gathering and channelling of energies during my weightlifting/power lifting career it would no doubt have been an extremely valuable asset and would certainly have enhanced my training programme. Steve Truelove, former Welsh, Celtic Nations & British weightlifting/power lifting champion.
As a former rugby player and sports therapist being guided by Tony for the last two and a half years, I have no doubt of the benefits his teaching could provide in the sports arena, particularly I feel in rugby. Understanding how to ground yourself and move from your centre provides greater body control and with this far more explosive power can be generated for tackles, clearing out opposition and the set piece. From a conditioning stand point the benefits from strengthening tendons and ligaments brought about through Tai Chi practice would go a long way to reducing the number of joint injuries to ankles, knees and shoulders so prevalent in the modern game. The increased energy that can be generated and the enhanced recuperative powers provided would be invaluable in combating the stresses both mental and physical of a long season. I would recommend Tony's work as a great addition to traditional training methods. Mark Purcell, former rugby player and sports therapist.
Tony is a teacher of extraordinary calibre! I do not speak lightly, when I say that for me he has decoded this martial art trend, which has been hitting the west for so long, but evading me! I needed to become fitter and having early arthritis, but found the soft/internal Tai Chi forms difficult to master. I needed to know WHY I was moving in these ways: and the answers seemed buried in the mists of antiquity. Tony, however, has knowledge of the core of the practices he teaches and of the energetic underlying them, which enlightens and gives meaning to the moves in the exercises and the forms he shares. He is an exacting teacher, which means what I learn is correct, but encouraging, so that even in my mid 50’s I do not feel compromised as a beginner. In the 6 months I have been training with Tony, my arthritis has completely settled, I have more energy and feel increasingly vibrant. That can’t be bad and gives some cognisance to the claims of the martial arts being good for you! I am certainly a converted sceptic- thanks to Tony. I would recommend this form of Tai Chi/Qigong and “Internal” training to anyone wishing to become fitter, regardless of their age.
